DEFRA adopts new EU directive on control of
Foot and Mouth Disease

The new EU Directive on FMD control was adopted
at Agriculture Council on 29 September. The adopted version is available
on the DEFRA website at
www.defra.gov.uk/footandmouth/directive/council_directive.pdf
DEFRA does not intend to make printed copies
available.
This Directive is to be transposed into domestic
legislation by 30 June 2004. DEFRA intends to consult on the draft
implementing regulations, which, in England, will be the Foot-and-Mouth
Disease (England) Order 2004, in the New Year
