DEFRA launches Training Package to
Deal with Emergencies

On 11th March 2003 DEFRA unveiled a comprehensive
training package, aimed at those engaged in the humane killing of
animals, ranging from a notifiable disease outbreak to a roadside
emergency (CLICK
HERE).
Janet Bayley of NFMG pointed out to Land-Care
that with regard to FMD this document only says slaughter in relation
to infected animals and those exposed to disease - and no mention
of pre-emptive slaughter. We sincerely hope that DEFRA will quietly
drop this element of ‘control’.
