Ultrasound Scanning of Ewes

The second batch of 205 ewes - those put to the ram on 21 November 2002 - were ultrasound scanned for pregnancy diagnosis:

  • 26 had triplets
  • 134 had twins
  • 36 had singles
  • 7 yeld - i.e. not in lamb

This gives a lambing percentage at this stage of 186% in this group.

Taking the lambing percentage from the ultrasound scanning results of 17 January 2003 into account, this makes the overall lambing percentage 185%.

The condition of the ewes was excellent, being entirely appropriate for this stage of their pregnancy, indicating that the feeding programme was in order.

The tups put to our Scotch Mules were Suffolks - See 13 September 2002

All the Suffolk tups used for the first batch had grade 1 scrapie resistance genotype - See 22 November 2002
