Cattle Health Schemes

There are at least two cattle health schemes available in the UK: The Premium Cattle Health Scheme and Herdcare.

The Premium Cattle Health Scheme

Details of this scheme, which is supported by the Scottish Agricultural College (SAC), have previously been posted on Land-Care (click here). Alternatively, details can be found at www.cattlehealth.co.uk.

Herdcare - The National Cattle Health Scheme

Herdcare is the UK's largest cattle health scheme, combining Cattle Health 2000 (which took over MAFF's cattle health scheme in 1996) and a health scheme previously run by Livestock Services.

Herdcare's laboratory is supported by the UK's only private veterinary virology laboratory, BioBest.

Herdcare offers a testing service covering four infectious diseases:

  • Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis (IBR)
  • Bovine Virus Diarrhoea (BVD)
  • Leptospirosis
  • Johne's Disease

More information, and details of the health schemes offered, can be obtained from the Herdcare website: www.herdcare.com.
